Divesting Pate De verre

A methodical practice the glass maker must embrace. If the desire to reveal becomes too exciting, the work may be destroyed in the process. I consider first removing, lifting away, or cutting away, loose, cracked pieces around the top edge of the work. When gently slicing at the plaster/silica, the heavier fiberglass jacket coat remaining on the outside falls away. Using caution and minimal energy, remove the plaster/silica bits. This will reduce stress while dissecting the glass. Once the heavier bits are gone, start to brush and chip away the smaller sections of plaster/silica while submerging in water. This helps soften the material for removal. I decided to make a small prototype from my driftwood projects. I wanted to share this video to show how I remove the glass from the refractory molds.
